The 97th Air Mobility Wing Inspector General team was recognized for their outstanding performance as the Air Education and Training Command best office of the year, June 5, 2019, at Altus Air Force Base, Okla.

The Maj. Gen. Junius W. Jones Inspector General Award recognizes outstanding Commander’s Inspection Program’s (CCIP) whose performance is proactive and proves to go above and beyond the completion of everyday mission requirements.

“The 97 AMW IG office has performed well beyond my expectations,” said U.S. Air Force Col. Eric Carney, the 97 AMW commander. “Their endless drive for improvement has equipped me with an unmatched CCIP.”

Throughout the year, the IG team improved relations with off base agencies, coordinated wing-level plans and held readiness exercises. The biggest exercise conducted was the 1st Airborne Hijacking Exercise. This was held in coordination with over 17 varied agencies at federal and state level, which improved skills and readiness within the IG team. All these elements factored into the award.

Additionally, Gary Cobb, the 97 AMW IG Team Director, won the Lt. Gen. Howard W. Leaf IG Award for Category IV civilians at the AETC level. This award recognized Cobb’s outstanding performance as an inspector.

With the team’s combined accomplishments and hard work throughout the year, they proved to be truly deserving of the award.

“Winning this award took lots of coordinated work from the IG team, installation commanders and units, and of course the Wing Inspection Team members,” said Cobb. “The award could not have been accomplished without the never-ending integration and all the outstanding efforts of the 97 AMW WIT members. We have around 90 members spread throughout Altus AFB that all contribute greatly to the mission.”

Combined efforts from all parts of the 97 AMW IG team made it possible for them to receive the well-deserved Maj. Gen. Junius W. Jones Inspector General Award. Airmen of the Mighty 97th constantly go above and beyond daily activities to prove themselves and fulfill the Altus AFB mission.
