The numbered Air Force responsible for technical training in Air Education and Training Command is set to get a new leader Friday.

Maj. Gen. Alfred Flowers takes command of 2nd Air Force in a 10 a.m. ceremony May 23 at Keesler Air Force Base.

General Flowers succeeds Maj. Gen. Mike Gould, who leaves after commanding 2nd Air Force since November 2005. General Gould's new assignment is operations and plans director for U.S. Transportation Command at Scott Air Force Base, Ill.

General Flowers comes from an assignment at Maxwell AFB, Ala., where he commanded the Air Force Officer Accession and Training Schools at Air University.

The general earned his commission through Officer Training School as a distinguished graduate of the December 1978 class.

He has served as a budget officer at the squadron, major command and Air Staff levels. General Flowers has also served on the Joint Staff as defense resource manager. In 1999, he became the director of budget programs for the Department of the Air Force.

Prior to his current position, he was assigned as director for the Center for Force Structure, Requirements, Resources and Strategic Assessments, Headquarters U.S. Special Operations Command, MacDill AFB, Fla.

Maj. Gen. Mark A. Welsh III, AETC vice commander, will preside at the change of command ceremony.
