Members of the 97th Medical Group Logistics Flight work behind the scenes to acquire, supply and maintain the necessary tools and equipment for Altus Air Force Base medical personnel to keep Airmen fit to train and fight.

Their shop helps ensure medical readiness and crisis response action for members of Altus AFB.

"Our shop consists of three elements: medical logistics, equipment repair and facility management. We are the glue that keeps the medical clinic running," said U.S. Air Force 1st Lt. Dustin Brown, 97th logistics flight commander. "We order all the equipment and supplies for the clinic ranging from latex gloves to the x-ray digital imaging equipment."

The logistics flight has a lot of moving parts, but they all work together for a common goal.

"Most people may not realize that we are vital to the mission," said Brown. "It's amazing seeing the scope of what we do out here and the impact we have on patient care. If they don't get equipment and supplies from us, then they can't keep the Airmen healthy and ready for duty."

Each member of the flight has a different role or responsibility, but they know their importance and each member does their part to ensure mission effectiveness.

"We help keep the Airmen healthy and ready for the mission," said U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Martina Camacho, NCO in charge of the medical equipment management office. "What many people may not realize is that our office has a very diverse mission. We do more than just deliver supplies. We make sure contracts are being paid. We ensure compliance with the federal acquisition regulation. We are responsible for packing every first-aid kit on base including the ones on our aircraft. Without enough first-aid kits on an aircraft, they cannot take off for safety reasons. Airmen cannot deploy without the required medicine that we purchase and supply."

The product of the logistics flight varies depending on the mission, but no matter what it is, the flight will be the sole supplier of any medical equipment or supplies.

"Every piece of medical equipment on Altus AFB is purchased and received by our office," said Camacho. "Without medical equipment, the practitioners wouldn't be able to see patients. Personally, I think one of the most important aspects of my job is to educate our equipment custodians about their roles and responsibilities involving medical equipment. We entrust them with something they are financially responsible for and I feel it is important to give them the knowledge of how to manage their equipment properly to reduce the risk of running into issues."
