Air University puts the ‘E’ in AETC

The Air Force Senior Noncommissioned Officer Academy was activated on July 1, 1972, on Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama. A few months later on Nov. 2, the academy moved to its current home on Maxwell’s Gunter Annex. The SNCOA is the third level of enlisted professional military education, with Airman Leadership School and NCO Academy being the first and second levels, respectively. All three programs reside in the Thomas N. Barnes Center for Enlisted Education. The center is named after the fourth chief master sergeant of the Air Force.
