The Air Force Information Technology Conference 2009 is scheduled for Aug. 24-27 at the Renaissance Montgomery Hotel and Spa Convention Center in Montgomery.

The annual conference brings together government leaders and key figures in the IT field to observe and discuss the latest information technology, Jason Bishop, spokesman for the event said.
This year's conference theme is "Air Force IT: the Warfighter's Edge in Battlespace."

Heading a list of distinguished speakers is Gen. James Cartwright, vice chairman of the Joints Chiefs of Staff, Mr. Bishop said.

Also scheduled are:
·Gen. Norton Schwartz, Air Force Chief of Staff
·Gen. Robert Kehler, commander, Air Force Space Command
·Lt. Gen. Carroll Pollett, director, Defense Information Systems Agency
·Maj. Gen. William Lord, commander, Air Force Cyberspace Command
·Maj. Gen. Gary McCoy, commander, Air Force Global Logistics Support Center
·John Caporal, deputy director of the Air Force Small Business Programs
·Rep. Bobby Bright (D-Ala.)

Armed Services Committee and House Small Business Committee AFITC 2009 will showcase how IT hardware, software and services are being used today and how they will be used in the future to accomplish the mission in air, space and cyberspace, Mr. Bishop said.

He added the small business portion of the conference will consist of town hall sessions and match-making meetings that will feature Mr. Caporal and Representative Bright. The purpose of the town hall sessions is for all representatives to communicate their government entity's interests in what type of capabilities they require of small businesses in addition to discussing current and future contracting vehicles.

Mr. Bishop said the match-making meetings will serve as the small business' responses to how to accomplish the goals communicated by government and industry representatives to secure contracts or teaming arrangements.

Hosted by the 754th Electronic Systems Group with the City of Montgomery, AFITC 2009 is expected to attract more than 200 vendors and 6,000 attendees from throughout the Department of Defense, Mr. Bishop said.

Registration is open to Department of Defense personnel, government contractors, college educators and local state employees. College students majoring in IT or business are also welcome to register, Mr. Bishop said.
