Col. Elizabeth Music, prior commander of the 47th STUS, and welcomed Lt. Col. Aaron Borszich, current commander of the 47th STUS, during a change of command ceremony here, Jan. 17, 2025. Col. Joseph McCane, 47th Operations Group commander, presided over the ceremony, noting the pivotal role the 47th STUS plays as in generating America’s airpower. “Being responsible for the hearts and minds and training of 646 lieutenants is a daunting task,” said McCane. “But Music's team made it look easy. Libby, thank you for being a great commander and leading the STUS through some difficult times. You truly cared for each and every one of your squadron members. Aaron, welcome to one of the greatest jobs on this base, the student squadron commander.” Borszich previously served as the 47th Flying Training Wing chief of safety since April 2024. As the commander of the 47th STUS, he is now responsible for 646 U.S. and international students, 80 government civilians and 24 permanent party and military cadres. “Last April I started with the Wing Safety team and really had the chance to re-blue as a leader after three years of Navy Staff work,” said Borszich. “I want to say thank you to Col. Ellison, Col. Caldwell, and Col. McCane, I’m grateful for your trust, and most importantly the opportunity to command,” The 47th STUS provides instructional program development and academic instruction for specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training students. All Laughlin’s ‘Bolts’, American and international, are assigned to the squadron during their time at Laughlin. The student squadron also provides oversight for aircraft simulator operations and all civilian simulator instructors. “I’ll ask this of the STUS, my squadron, give me your trust, lend me some of your grace,” said Borszich. “Together we’ll do great things for our nation and our families. All previous orders and policies are still in effect. Get back to work. ‘STUS ‘EM’” Music served as commander of 47th STUS since May 2023. "Over the last 12 years I’ve spent nearly six of them in the STUS and over my career I’ve spent 10 years here at Laughlin,” said Music. “We have overcome so many challenges, and it is because we care. We care about the human domain – we utilize our helping agencies and resources, and we step up so that you, the future of our Air Force can step up. ‘Bolts’, it has been the honor of my life to have served as your commander. Go forward, lead boldly, and take care of each other.”
