Chief Master Sergeant JOSEPH A. MONTGOMERY

Chief Master Sergeant Joseph A. Montgomery is the Command Chief, 58th Special Operations Wing, Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico. He is the senior enlisted leader responsible to the Commander for the professional development, military readiness, and mission effectiveness of over 2,600 Airmen administering more than 118 academic courses training over 20,000 students annually. The wing trains mission-ready special operations, combat search and rescue, personnel recovery, missile site support, and UH-1 DV airlift aircrews, as well as SERE, Survival Specialists and Combat Rescue Officer training for the world’s best Air and Space Force. The wing’s thirteen squadrons provide and support flight training for 32 different crew positions in TH/UH-1H/N, HH-60G, CV-22B, MC-130H, HC-130P/N, and MC/HC-130J aircraft.

Chief Montgomery grew up in Jacksboro, TN., and entered the Air Force in April 1989. His background includes positions as both in-shop and flight line maintenance in the Turbo-Propulsion career field; Instructor and Evaluator Flight Engineer qualifications on the C-130E/H, MC-130E, and special mission aircraft; and as a Loadmaster on the MC-130H. He is a Chief Enlisted Aircrew Member with more than 4,800 flying hours and 760 combat hours. His leadership positions include Operations Superintendent, Additional Duty First Sergeant, Squadron Superintendent, Group Superintendent, and Functional Manager. His assignments include bases in Mississippi, Florida, Alaska, North Carolina, Japan and the United Kingdom. He has taken part in numerous humanitarian and combat operations and has extensive experience in Operations ENDURING FREEDOM, IRAQI FREEDOM, and NEW DAWN.
