    Ever since she was young, Airman 1st class Sahira Contreras, 47th Healthcare Operations Squadron referral management technician, saw her Dad in uniform and knew that’s the life she wanted when she was older. Her Dad always supported her goals to follow in his footsteps, so when she finished high school at age 17, her parents co-singed for her to join the U.S. Air Force.

    Airman 1st Class Sahira Contreras, 47th Medical Support Squadron referral management technician, was chosen by wing leadership to be the “XLer” of the week, for the week of May 27, 2019, at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas. The “XLer” award, presented by Col. Andrew Cruz, 47th Medical Group commander, and Chief Master Sgt. Jose Diaz, 47th MDG superintendent, is given to those who consistently make outstanding contributions to their unit and the Laughlin mission.
  • 47th Dental flight adapts, innovates through manning shortfalls

    Much of the Air Force has at one point or another experienced what it’s like to be under-manned, and the Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas 47th Medical Group Dental Clinic is no exception. When there’s a never-ending push to see how much more can be accomplished by an ever smaller team, adaptation seems to become key. The Laughlin Dental Clinic, like many agencies, is never at 100 percent manning, but they make up for that through endless innovation and teamwork.
