Colonel Patrick Shope is the Air Force Reserve Advisor to the commander, Headquarters Air Education and Training Command, Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Texas. He advises the commander and the AETC staff on all matters relating to the Air Force Reserve. He serves as a liaison between AETC and Air Force Reserve Command, 4th Air Force, 10th Air Force, 22nd Air Force and the wings within AFRC.
Colonel Shope received his commission as a distinguished graduate from the United States Air Force Academy in 1989. He completed pilot training at Reese Air Force Base, Texas, served as a T-38 instructor pilot and was selected as T-1A initial cadre. Following his training tour, Colonel Shope transitioned to the mobility arena and served as a flight commander, safety officer, group executive officer, assistant director of operations and examiner/instructor pilot. He has served in staff assignments at the Balkans Air Operations Center and Headquarters Air Force Reserve Command. Prior to his current position, Colonel Shope was Deputy Chief, Current Operations Division, Headquarters, Air Force Reserve Command, where he led a 32-person staff to direct 430 reserve aircraft and 1,400 aircrews from 41 operational units flying over 190,000 hours annually.
Colonel Shope joined the Air Force Reserve in 1998. He is a command pilot with more than 4,700 flight hours including 330 combat hours in Operations Northern/Southern Watch, Joint Guard, Joint Endeavor, Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom and New Dawn.
