Air Force student pilot to accept 2019 Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award at the U.S. Open. Isaac Perez will accept the 2019 Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award, presented by the NCAA at the U.S. Open Aug. 24, 2019. Originally from San Antonio, Perez begins pilot training in January 2020 here as part of the Pilot Training Next version 3 cohort. PTN is a small, innovation-driven pilot training program, which leverages virtual technology, artificial intelligence and biometrics to produce pilots in an accelerated and learning-focused manner. Perez graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., where he finished his career as a four-year varsity starter and team captain of the men’s tennis team, winning 80 matches. Perez’s USAFA tennis coach, Dan Oosterhous, nominated him for the prestigious Intercollegiate Tennis Association Award.
