HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- With continuous advances in technology the need to go out and socialize, or even go shopping has diminished. Recently, the 49th Wing launched a new web page to promote opportunities for individuals to get out of their comfort zone and to build relationships with people who have similar interests.

The current 49th Wing Command Chief pushed to make Holloman Connections Clubs a venue for Holloman Airmen and their families to look into joining various clubs and programs or make their own to connect with those around them.

“At Holloman, we truly try to make connection and meaning a part of our daily lives at work and outside of work,” said Chief Master Sgt. Sarah Esparza, 49th Wing command chief. “The connection clubs are an opportunity to get involved with groups to explore or further develop hobbies and build lasting relationships with people who have similar interests.”

The Holloman website has an HCC tab with a list of clubs to get involved with. Some of the clubs on the list are looking for potential points of contact or someone to lead and coordinate the meetings.

So far, there are already a few established clubs, ranging from body building, crossfit and volleyball clubs to video game, chess and homesteading clubs.

The HCC POCs are looking to have a “club” day in the near future to get the word out and expand the program. Eventually, the goal is to add this to the 49th Wing app so it will be at the users' fingertips.

“We have been getting a lot of requests from military members of all rank and civilians to become a POC of one or more clubs listed on the HCC page,” said Staff Sgt. Danielle Flores, 49th Wing HCC POC. “The point (of HCC) is to give everyone, regardless of rank or status the opportunity to get out and make connections with people who share similar interests.”

The opportunity is there for the taking, it all depends on the individual and what they would like to do with it.
