Goodfellow Security Forces members volunteered with the San Angelo Coalition of Police for the 13th Annual Operation Blue Santa Shop with a Cop at a local store in San Angelo, Dec. 12.

This is a national program with local police working with local school districts to help children in need during the holiday season to enhance the children’s holidays. For the SACOP, this means they accompany the children shopping, buying presents for themselves and family members.

“I was fortunate to grow up very blessed,” said Airman 1st Class Joshua Minor, 17th Security Forces Squadron defender. “It is great to help out those in the community who may not have been as blessed as I was. To see their faces light up, it makes you remember the true meaning of the season.”

After the children were finished shopping, they could have their gifts wrapped by volunteers before taking them home.

“This year we had about 40 kids and families who participated in the event,” said San Angelo Police Officer Raymond Francis. “It is awesome to have the extra help from the members from Goodfellow.”

This is the second year that Goodfellow members helped with the event and due to donations SACOP was able to help some base families that had loved ones who are not going to be home for the holidays.
