SAN ANGELO, Texas --
Col. Andres Nazario, 17th Training Wing commander, spoke at the monthly San Angelo Chamber of Commerce luncheon, held at the Bentwood Country Club, San Angelo, Texas, March 23.
During his address, Nazario offered words of thanks to the city of San Angelo and base partners for their continued support throughout the years and through the COVID-19 pandemic.
“All of this starts with teamwork and partnerships,” said Nazario. “The city of San Angelo has always supported its military members and for that I thank you.”
He highlighted the combined efforts of Goodfellow AFB and the San Angelo community in realizing Inter-governmental Service Agreements with Angelo State University, COVID response efforts, contingency response, and student lodging expansion.
Nazrio described how in the past year, San Angelo Military Advisor Group co-chair, Mike Boyd, and his spouse, Treva, delivered over 2,100 disposable surgical masks to Goodfellow back in April of 2020. This act of benevolence was started by two men who spent over $125,000 and purchased over 100,000 masks for medical members, first responders, the San Angelo community and Goodfellow Air Force Base.
Also during his address, Nazario highlighted a historical agreement between Goodfellow and ASU to utilize the university’s student living quarters. These contracted living quarters support roughly 110 Airmen. This agreement includes food service and access to ASU’s recreational facilities.
It is the first agreement of its kind within the Department of Defense.
“I could not be more proud to be the commander at Goodfellow and have a true team of champions that we’re able to leverage within the community to tackle any challenge,” said Nazario. “Even with all the challenges faced with COVID-19, Goodfellow maintained its graduation rate.”
At the end of the address, Nazario presented a video showcasing Goodfellow’s pride in partnerships with the community and their dedication to bolstering the Armed Forces’ warfighting capabilities.
“I am so blessed to have an amazing team and a community that stands right behind all of our service members. Together we are Goodfellow,” said Nazario. “We’re going to continue chipping away at our goals. Our nation and the citizens of San Angelo deserve nothing less.”
