GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Air Education and Training Command announced the 17th Training Wing as a recipient of the 2020 Air Force Outstanding Unit Award for the timeframe of July 1, 2019, to June 30, 2020.

"During this period, the 17th Training Wing provided superior Intelligence, Fire Protection and Special Instruments Training to more than 13,000 Soldiers, Marines, Sailors, Airmen, Coast Guardsmen, as well as allies and select civilian personnel,” as stated in the citation accompanying the award.

This award also recognizes other wing accomplishments during the aforementioned time period, which included forging the first ever hybrid intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance training, transferring over 1,000 Airmen in less than one week to online instruction. The wins also continued to lead the Air Force’s Community Partnership Program with the city of San Angelo, completing 15 additional partnerships and saving over 15 million dollars, the highest in the Air Force for the last six years!

According to the Air Force Personnel Center, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award is awarded by the Secretary of the Air Force to numbered units that have distinguished themselves through exceptional meritorious service or outstanding achievement, which clearly sets the unit above and apart from similar units.

“I’m incredibly proud of all the hard work and dedication of our 17th TRW and this award is just a testament to the amazing people that we have in our wing,” added Chief Master Sgt. Casy Boomershine, 17th TRW command chief.

All members permanently assigned to the 17th TRW during the award timeframe are authorized to wear the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award ribbon.

"Goodfellow continues to train, develop and inspire the future force while exceeding expectations day in and day out,” said Col. Andres Nazario, 17th TRW commander. “As a wing, receiving awards like this only build on our future force and our goal to become the global hub for learning and development.”
