359th Medical Group earns excellent HSI rating Published Oct. 28, 2010 By Linda Frost 59th Medical Wing Public Affairs RANDOLPH AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The 359th Medical Group here recently received an excellent rating during a Health Services Inspection conducted by the Air Force Inspection Agency. A nine-member team from the AFIA Medical Directorate conducted an in-depth assessment of the 359th Medical Group's capabilities, while a three-member team from the Accreditation Association for the Ambulatory Health Care reviewed the facility's patient care and safety programs. "The team here at the 359th MDG is hard-working and very dedicated," said Col. Soledad Lindo-Moon, 359th Medical Group commander. "We are here to serve our beneficiaries and our mission is to optimize the health of our community and ensure a medically-ready force. The inspection score of 91 percent, or 'Excellent', attests to the fact that we are fulfilling our mission." The inspectors looked at 126 different elements broken down into three different categories: expeditionary medical operations, in-garrison medical operations and leadership. Within those categories, the inspection team evaluated medical readiness and training, operational medicine, occupational and environmental health, mental health, dentistry, clinical services, workers protection, human resource management and business management. The senior enlisted inspector said the on-the-job training and the Air Force training record programs were in the top two medical groups that she has inspected during her tenure with AFIA. Meantime, the AAAHC inspection team noted the referral management program as the best in Air Force medical clinics. Accreditation from AAAHC, a private, non-profit organization, inspects medical organizations across the U.S. and ensures medical facilities deliver quality patient care and complies with nationally-recognized standards. AAAHC accreditation is recognized by third party payers, medical societies, and state and government agencies. Both inspection teams also highlighted outstanding performers. Among those recognized by the HSI team were: Staff Sgt. Tricia Williams for significant contributions to the readiness program Tech. Sgt. Erica Buckley for improvements in the self-aid buddy care program Master Sgt. Cindy Wilds for significant improvements to training documentation and records Lt. Col. Vivian Dennis was coined for her efforts as project manager for the inspection. Outstanding performers recognized by the AAAHC team were: Ms. Ajaye Abalos, patient safety Lt. Col. Samuel Munro for using ALTHA to maximum capacity Ms. Cara Sievers for referral management
