Jacob Corbin 14th Flying Training Wing Public Affairs COLUMBUS AIR FORCE BASE, Miss. -- While this weeks Air Education and Training Command's Active Shooter exercise is on the foremost of most members minds, it is important to remember and understand the proper procedures during an active shooter not only during an exercise, but in the event of a real-world incident. The procedures for an active shooter incident are divided into three categories: Lockdown, Stay Put and All Clear. Lockdown The Air Force Base is under emergency lockdown due to an Active Shooter on base ... TAKE COVER. If indoors: Move to the nearest office Lock/barricade doors Take adequate cover under/behind furniture Stay calm, quiet and out of sight DO NOT attempt to move wounded personnel If driving: Park off roadway Lock doors Keep out of sight. If outside: Get down Keep out of sight. Stay Put Authorities believe the gunman has been subdued, however, stay where you are. Do NOT leave your facility unless directed. It is permissible to move inside your present facility, remain clear of exterior windows. Recovery personnel (fire/medical) will be in your area to assist. Members of recovery teams should expect to be recalled. All Clear Gunman has been subdued and base is secure, emergency/recovery actions are completed. It is now safe to move outside your facility. Other Information: Columbus AFB members can expect to be notified by the on-base "giant voice" system; AdHoc Information Systems; e-mail; and through social media.
