Altus AFB Commissary pulls affected Similac products Published Sept. 29, 2010 By Kenny Scarle 97th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs ALTUS AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- Abbott Laboratories has recalled certain Similac powdered infant formulas due to possible contamination. The company announced a voluntary recall Sept. 29 of approximately five million units of its powdered infant formula after beetles were found in a Michigan plant where the formula is made. The Altus AFB Commissary has pulled all affected products from their shelves and is offering a product exchange or a full refund with a receipt. "We are still offering the same, unaffected products, because only a very limited lot number were affected," said Lori Stevens, Altus AFB Commissary secretary. The United States Food and Drug Administration determined the formula containing the beetles poses no immediate health risk. However, there is a possibility infants who consume formula containing the beetles or their larvae, could experience symptoms of gastrointestinal discomfort and refuse to eat, due to irritation their GI tract. If these symptoms persist for more than a few days, a physician should be consulted. The recalled products are: · Similac Sensitive RS · Similac Sensitive Isomil Soy · Similac Go and Grow Soy · Similac Advance · Similac Organic "We are keeping up with the reports daily to ensure our customers stay informed and healthy," Ms. Stevens said.
