Public Affairs launches new Eye On Sheppard program

SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, Texas --  Sheppard AFB is launching a new medium to help its populace see what's going on as well as teach those not familiar with the base about its mission.

Eye On Sheppard, a five-minute video production, will highlight recent news productions providing insight on how Sheppard trains its Airmen, and also about how other agencies provide services to sustain the mission.

The public affairs office will roll out the new product on a monthly basis in July, August and September. It will then move to a twice-monthly production October-December. The ultimate goal is to have a weekly product beginning the first week of January 2011.

The office will use its YouTube channel - www.youtube.com/sheppardPA - as its engine to push the information to its viewers. Click here to see the videos on Sheppard's Facebook fan page.

"A lot of folks don't realize the scope of Sheppard's mission," said John Ingle, 82nd Training Wing Public Affairs specialist. "We graduate close to 80,000 Airmen from our technical training side -- including officer and enlisted careers.

"We also graduate about 200 new pilots for partner countries in the NATO alliance."

The first edition of Eye On Sheppard, released July 29, draws attention to topics such as:
- Freedom Fest 2010, a community event hsoted by Sheppard every other year
- Sheppard's Wind Creek Golf Course offering a reduced rate for all golfers
- The 80th Flying Training Wing's Non-destructive Inspection shop
- The 982nd Maintenance Squadron's Trainer Development Flight who rebuilt a crashed MQ-9 Reaper allowing armament crews at Creech AFB, Nev., to train
- And the 82nd Security Forces Squadron conducting active shooter exercises as a unit as well as teaming up with colleagues from Altus AFB, Okla.

Another segment to be added in the near future is one that highlights those behind the scenes who provide an invaluable service to permanent party members and Airmen in Training.

Debi Smith, 82nd TRW/PA director of operations, will drive the train bringing attention to those who are often unintentionally overlooked.

"We have so many people here at Sheppard who want nothing but to see our Airmen succeed," she said. "We will work hard to make sure those people are recognized for their efforts and emphasize that this mission cannot succeed without them."
