Every year since 1925, the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, Alamo Mission Chapter, holds its annual Pilgrimage to the Alamo, a memorial tribute to the heroes and the heritage of Texas. A solemn wreath-bearing procession of historic, civic, patriotic, military and school groups walk silently from Municipal Auditorium to the Alamo in downtown San Antonio.

Maj. Gen. Tom Travis, 59th Medical Wing commander, and Command Chief Master Sgt. Richard Robinson were among the many military leaders throughout San Antonio participating in the Pilgrimage to the Alamo April 19. Assisting Chief Robinson with carrying the 59th MDW wreath was Senior Airman Romulus Kocsis, 59th Dental Support Squadron.

As the group approached the Alamo carrying their wreaths, a narrator voiced the names of the Alamo defenders from inside the Alamo walls, making them resound throughout the Alamo Plaza. Following the procession, and placing of the colorful floral offerings on the Alamo grounds, a brief memorial service was led by Gen. Stephen R. Lorenz, commander, Air Education and Training Command. General Lorenz is this year's Fiesta Military Coordinator.

The Daughters of the Republic of Texas, Alamo Chapter, serves to preserve the Alamo as a sacred memorial to the heroes who sacrificed themselves at the Alamo, through conservation of its historical structures and education in its historical heritage.
