Power returns to Altus, commander issues full recall Published Feb. 5, 2010 By 97th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs ALTUS AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- On Feb. 5, Col. Ty Thomas, 97th Air Mobility Wing commander recalled all Airmen and dependents who left Altus AFB, Okla., because of the severe ice storm that struck the base Jan. 28. A limited evacuation order was given to Team Altus members because the base lost power for more than eight days. As a result of the storm, Altus AFB relocated three C-17s, three KC-135s, and 67 support aircrew and maintenance personnel to Lackland Air Force Base' s Kelly Field, in San Antonio Texas, to resume training. The aircraft and the aircrews trained for three days at Kelly Field and will return to Altus AFB today. Colonel Thomas expects the base to return to full normal operations today.
