Food drive helps Sheppard have a good holiday season Published Nov. 16, 2009 By Airman 1st Class Valerie Hosea 82nd Training Wing Public Affairs SHEPPARD AIR FORCE, Texas -- The Sheppard community has been coming together since Nov. 1 to help its Airmen by donating to the Give the World a Hand food drive in preparation for the upcoming holidays. "So far we've collected about 75 pounds of food," said Cindy Cummings, Community Center supervisory recreation specialist. "But the drive isn't over yet, so we're looking forward to seeing more donations." The last day to donate is Nov. 24, which is just in time for the coordinators to complete the objective -- assembling and distributing the food in baskets to Airmen for the holidays. "The base Community Center has teamed up with the Airman and Family Readiness Center to distribute food baskets for Thanksgiving and Christmas to Sheppard Airmen," said Denice Tilley, Community Center director. Mrs. Tilley said donations from all members of Team Sheppard are welcome and highly encouraged. "All types of people can donate. We've had contributions from spouses, retirees, dependents, family members and Airmen," Mrs. Tilley said. Mrs. Cummings said the most important part of this food drive is the spirit of giving. "It's a good feeling to know that we're helping to give someone a nice Thanksgiving and/or Christmas, because they might not have been able to have one otherwise," Mrs. Cummings said. For more information or to donate please contact the Community Center at 676-3861.
