Improved PT uniform brings new rules

With the release of the improved physical training uniform, come updated rules for wear.

Retirees, dependents and others who wear the PT uniform are strongly encouraged to wear it properly -- with the shirt tucked in.

"I have been asked how people should deal with civilians and veterans who are wearing it on base and are not in compliance with the message. My fervent hope would be that they'd honor it and us by wearing it properly," said Chief Master Sgt. Robert Tappana, Air Education and Training Command command chief master sergeant.

New uniform guidelines state both the PT and the improved PT clothing are now considered uniform items.

"Effective immediately, individual items that make up the PTU and IPTU are considered uniform items," said Lt. Gen. Richard Newton, Manpower & Personnel deputy chief of staff, in a wear policy outlining the new changes.

"Given that they are uniform items, table 6.1 of AFI 36-2903 applies," Chief Tappana said.

Table 6.1 states that retired service members and Air National Guard and Reserve not in military status must follow the same rules as active duty service members in regard to uniform standards.
