San Antonio pays tribute to Armed Forces Published Oct. 27, 2009 By Linda Frost 59th Medical Wing Public Affairs LACKLAND AIR FORCE, Texas -- San Antonio has long been known as "Military City USA," and has a rich history of strong support of the military. For the past 39 years, the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce has paid tribute to local service members and those who have served during the annual Celebrate America's Military Week. This year's program is scheduled Nov. 2-11, and features more than a dozen events for military members and their families. It is a way of saying thank you to the men and women who serve and protect our nation. Over the years, CAM has evolved to become a city-wide celebration and involves the participation of the downtown rotary club, city of San Antonio, San Antonio Symphony and the local military installations. During CAM, San Antonio's military and community can enjoy these free events: Nov. 5, Los Curanderos, U.S. Army Medical Command band, Concert at the San Antonio Botanical Gardens at 5 p.m. Nov. 7-8, Two-day Air Fest at Randolph Air Force Base. Gates open at 9 a.m. and close at 5 p.m. Nov. 7, Veterans Day Parade through downtown San Antonio, Alamo Plaza with a wreath laying at the Alamo at 11:00 a.m. The parade kicks off at noon Nov. 10, Tops in Blue Concert at the Municipal Auditorium at 7 p.m. Nov. 11, San Antonio Symphony Veterans Day Concert at the Municipal Auditorium at 7 p.m. Nov. 11, Wreath laying at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 11, Buffalo Soldiers Commemorative Ceremony at San Antonio National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. Brig. Gen. (Ret.) Toreaser Steele is scheduled to speak. In addition to the free events listed above, CAM will have many more events that you must register for including the Kickoff Luncheon, "Spirit of America" Dinner, Air Force Association Combat Breakfast, Association United States Army Luncheon, CAM Golf Tournament, and more.
