The Air Force is currently searching for fresh faces to join the military training instructor corps.

As part of this search, Air Education and Training Command sent MTIs from base to base to explain their role and recruit young noncomissioned officers and senior airmen to join them as MTIs.

Tech. Sgt. Daniel Reed, 737th Training Support Squadron MTI, made a stop at Sheppard Sept. 3 to talk about what being an MTI means and some of the benefits offered.

"Forget everything you think you know about MTIs," he said. "Control, alt, delete that."

Sergeant Reed said many changes have been made in the last year to the MTI career field such as the switch to the eight-and-a-half week training plan which started in November 2008. The whole career field has undergone a facelift, but there were other much needed changes as well.

"Duty hours have slowly gotten better. Since we have more time in the course to teach the curriculum we don't have to spend so much time with the trainees," he said. "We have also moved away from the drudgery of folding clothes and making beds and moved in the direction of war skills and self aid and buddy care, teaching the tools that young Airmen will need while they are deployed."

Sergeant Reed said interested Airmen who qualify should look into it because there are significant benefits.
