AETC announces DoD distinguished civilian service award

Air Education and Training Command officials recently announced Raymond Contreras, AETC Studies and Analysis Squadron, as the 54th Annual Department of Defense Distinguished Civilian Service Award winner. This individual will compete in the next level of competition.

This award is presented to a small number of DoD civilian employees whose careers reflect exceptional devotion to duty and extremely significant contributions of broad scope to the efficiency, economy or other improvements in the operation of the DoD.

Mr. Contreras drove the establishment of AETC's Lesson-Learned Program from its beginning. He ensured critical joint warfighting lessons from operations in Afghanistan and Iraq were infused into the command's deployment training programs. He also directed a geographically-separated unit conducting joint training system requirements analyses for the $400 billion Joint Strike Fighter and $4.1 billion Airborne Laser. 

Additionally, he was in charge of the transfer of contractor logistical support from Raytheon Systems Company to the Royal Saudi air force and maintaining 17 long-range radar sites for Kingdom air defense system. Mr. Contreras led and directed 235 personnel with multicultural backgrounds conducting hardware and software maintenance at Prince Sultan Air Base depot.
