  • Published
Air Education and Training Command recently announced Connie Ali, 56th Security Forces Squadron, Luke Air Force Base, Ariz., as the 2009 Spirit of Hope military program award winner. This individual will compete in the next level of competition.

The award is named in honor of Bob Hope and is presented for to individuals and organizations whose patriotism and service reflects that of famed entertainer.

Ms. Ali initiated a first security forces partnership with local Air Force recruiters to promote the Air Force. Her contributions continued with the Air Force Sergeants Association Auxiliary Chapter A1260 to obtain stuffed animals for the 56th SFS. The stuffed animals allowed responding patrols to present a toy to children involved in traumatic incidents.

She was the 56th SFS focal point for the 2008 Luke AFB Operation Kids event that provided more than 250 children the opportunity to get a feel for what their parents experience during deployments. The event featured camouflage painting, military weapons safety demonstrations, combat equipment demonstrations, police car orientations and McGruff the Crime Dog.

Ms. Ali also helped arrange 10 redeployment events by ensuring every member returning from deployed locations received a hero's welcome at the airport.
