AETC officials announce Orr awards winners Published March 6, 2009 RANDOLPH AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Air Education and Training Command officials recently named the 314th Airlift Wing, Little Rock Air Force Base, Ark., as the 2009 Verne Orr Award winner and Robert Davison, 14th Flying Training Wing, Columbus AFB, Miss. as the 2009 Joan Orr Air Force Spouse of the Year award winner. These individuals will compete at the next level of competition. Verne Orr award The Verne Orr award recognizes the Air Force active-duty, Reserve or Guard unit that makes the most effective use of its human resources. Through 2008, the 314th AW graduated more than 1,800 students from the Department of Defense and 34 nations, replenishing C-130 combat aircrew capability. It also earned an excellent rating during its Headquarters Operational Readiness Inspection. To its credit, the wing won the AETC 2008 Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Enlisted Instructor of the Year Award and three Dutch Huyser award nominations. It also won 19th Air Force instructor navigator, instructor engineer, and instructor loadmaster annual awards. The wing also won the 2008 AETC Clements McMullen Memorial Daedalian Weapon System Maintenance Trophy for superior maintenance practices. Joan Orr award The Joan Orr award recognizes significant contributions made by non-military spouses of Air Force military members. Mr. Davison served as Operation Homefront chapter president for Mississippi and Alabama. He coordinated more than $261,000 in donations to military members and their families and volunteered more than 1,200 hours. He led a team of 75 volunteers to provide clothes, shoes, meals, phone cards and financial relief during times of crisis to both base and local community families. Mr. Davison also provided donations to support underprivileged children in the local community during the Happy Christmas program and sponsored 1,800 Airmen, Sailors, Soldiers and National Guardsmen assigned to bases in Mississippi and Alabama for homecoming celebrations following their deployments. He was also won the 2008 Presidential Volunteer Service Award.
