  • Published
The 36th Rescue Flight completed its 623rd rescue June 3, when a rescue crew located a missing woman on a high ridgeline three miles from her home.

The 44-year-old woman was lost 10 miles southeast of Ellensburg, Wash. The five member aircrew left Fairchild at 8 a.m. June 3 to look for the woman.

"We weren't expecting that she would be in an area so high up," said Master Sgt. Patrick Hunt, independent-duty medical technician. "But we had a hunch, we went with it, and we found her."

After locating the woman, who suffered from mild hypothermia and foot injuries, the team landed the UH-1N Huey helicopter on a rural road. The crew escorted the woman to the helicopter and flew her to Bower Field in Ellensburg, where an ambulance transferred the woman to a hospital.

"We train tirelessly, so to experience our training translate into a successful mission like this is very rewarding," said Maj. Daniel Nielsen, aircraft commander.

The 36th RQF falls under Air Education and Training Command's 336th Training Group and is part of the Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape School.

Other members of the crew included: 1st Lt. James Outland, co-pilot; Tech. Sgt. Matt Ryplewski, flight engineer; and Chaz Burton, crew chief.
