MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Ala. -- Major Gen. William Holt II assumed command of the Curtis E. LeMay Center for Doctrine Development and Education and the position of vice commander of Air University during a ceremony May 24, 2021, at Maxwell Air Force Base.

The LeMay Center focuses on advancing warfighting through doctrine, education and simulation, and Air University serves as the intellectual and leadership-development center of the Air Force.

Holt commissioned through the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps program at New Mexico State University in 1990. The majority of his career consisted of assignments in special operations aviation, while also leading combat missions in Afghanistan, Iraq, Bosnia and the Horn of Africa.

During his remarks, Lt. Gen. James Hecker, Air University commander, spoke about Holt’s leadership attributes.

“He’s an inspirational leader, and he's a guy that truly knows his people and cares for his people,” Hecker said. “He’s a team player ... When I look at what is his true value, he’s a warrior.”

Holt thanked his family for their support throughout his years of service and Hecker for placing his trust and confidence in him to lead the men and women of the LeMay Center.

“To the men and women of the LeMay Center, you are a high performing organization in the middle of a lot of change,” he said. “I look forward to getting out and meeting each of you, spending time with you and working with you in the years ahead.”

Holt most recently served as the director of operations at the Training and Force Development Headquarters United States Space Command, Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado.

“We are going to continue to make the LeMay Center better by focusing on the mission, our people and our families,” Holt stated.
