The 19th Air Force commander has ordered a one day safety stand-down May 5 of all aircraft operations in his command.

Maj Gen. Irving L. Halter Jr., ordered the stand-down as an opportunity for all those associated with flying in the command to re-emphasize and re-focus on the importance of flying safety and operational procedures.

The safety day follows yesterday's stand-down of the T-38C Talon after two fatal crashes with the aircraft in the last two weeks.

The 19th Air Force, headquartered at Randolph Air Force Base, Texas oversees all flying training operations in the Air Education and Training Command.

"I have great confidence in the men and women who fly and maintain the aircraft in this command," General Halter said. "This safety stand-down day will allow each and every person across the command the opportunity to re-emphasize the importance of flying safety and how critical it is to our people and to our mission."
