AETC announces 2008 AETC Inns of Excellence Awards

  • Published
Air Education and Training Command officials recently announced the winners for the 2008 AETC Inns of Excellence Awards.

This award is presented annually to recognize lodging operations that provide the most outstanding hotel-type lodging and customer service to Air Force travelers. Winners are selected by on-site evaluation teams.

Large Base Category: 81st Services Division, Keesler AFB, Miss. During the April biennial accreditation evaluation the Inns of Keesler obtained a 97.6 percent accreditation score, the highest during that cycle. Quality culture is working at the Inns of Keesler as the 4.83 percent customer satisfaction rating far exceeds the AETC standard of 3.5 percent. By implementing rotational work schedule and expanding area of responsibility, morale and productivity was boosted, absentee reduced, experience broadened and the overall employee turnover rate lowered.

Small Base Category: 47th Force Support Squadron Services Division, Laughlin AFB, Texas. The Laughlin Manor has never been accredited and in their very first attempt, they earned an incredible score of 96.8 percent. When a local laundry vendor contracted for $84,000 per year folded, Laughlin Manor established an in-house laundry at a cost of $75,000 a year, saving the government $9,000 a year for the next 20 years. The shrewd management of a $33,900 appropriated fund ensured 100 percent supply and equipment needs were met in times of budget reductions.

The winners will now compete at the Air Force-level competition.
