FOCUS 2006 to benefit AETC Airmen, their children Published Aug. 25, 2006 By Capt. Mike Tatum Air Education and Training Command Comptroller Office RANDOLPH AIR FORCE BASE, Texas (AETCNS) -- "I am committed to improving quality-of-life across the command, and one way to make it happen is to put money to work where it best helps our Airmen and their families," said Gen. William R. Looney III, commander of Air Education and Training Command. And family is exactly what this year's FOCUS program will address by designating up to $2 million for AETC base youth programs and child development centers. "I want to say this loud and clear, so you hear me and understand this is truly the way I feel -- your family is the most important part of your life," General Looney said at a recent commander's call. This sentiment is reflected in General Looney's selection for the 2006 FOCUS Program theme: "AETC ... FOCUSing on our Airmen and their children." AETC first implemented the FOCUS program for fiscal year 2002 to target money for specific quality-of-life areas that benefit the most people at each AETC base. "We've asked all AETC wing commanders to provide requirements that fit this year's theme," said Col. Barbara Gilchrist, AETC's comptroller. "Once command leadership has reviewed and approved the requirements, we will distribute FOCUS funds for each base's highest priorities." Over the past four years, AETC has used the FOCUS program to fund an additional $10 million for gym equipment, family areas, chapels, First Term Airmen Centers and Family Support Centers. "Ultimately, this quality-of-life money represents the command's commitment to our Airmen and their families," General Looney said. "It will benefit our people for years to come."
