LAUGHLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Laughlin's very own med group deployed to Brooklyn to assist in vaccinating the population. To fight against COVID-19 and help citizens get properly vaccinated in a timely manner to protect the densely populated areas.

“The purpose is to make COVID-19 vaccine available for Brooklyn residents. Medgar Evers College is in a neighborhood that was hard hit by COVID-19,” said Maj Danyell Lambert, 47th Medical Group registered nurse. “The state of New York in coordination with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and Joint task force made it possible for us to deliver 3,000 vaccines per day, seven days a week.”

The team did more than give out vaccines, they were also responsible for  the safety of all their patients after the vaccine was administered.

“In my position I oversaw 40 medics spanning 8 AFSCs, screened for vaccine eligibility and administered vaccines,” said Lambert. “Also, medically cleared for vaccine, monitored and treated patients after vaccine for side effects, screened and vaccinated as necessary.”

The team was responsible for vaccinating 210,000 patients during their entire deployment.

The team helped  protect many Americans and minimized the amount of citizens affected by the pandemic.

With every vaccine administered they were one step closer to stopping the spread.

The members of the 47th medical group will soon return home to Laughlin to their friends, family, and loved ones to get some much earned recovery time and teach their lessons learned.

“The 47 MDG was supportive of our team during this deployment and made it easy for us to focus on our mission in New York,” Lambert said.

When the vaccine was created to help with this pandemic, the members of Laughlin's 47th Medical Group answered the call to make sure as many people were vaccinated as possible.
