U.S. Space Force Debuts Immersive New Redesign of Recruiting Website

JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-Randolph, Texas-- The Space Force has launched an expanded interactive redesign of its recruiting website as the newest military branch marks its third anniversary.

Originally launched in December 2021, SpaceForce.com is where future Guardians from both military and civilian backgrounds can learn more about the mission, history and capabilities of the Space Force, the careers available in fields as varied as space operations, intelligence, engineering and tech, and most importantly, policies and procedures on how to join.

The purpose of the redesigned site is to make the capabilities of the Space Force tangible and visible to the public. For example, the homepage features an immersive, interactive spacelift mission, using the latest in web-based graphics and sound design to provide site visitors a first-hand glimpse of the Space Force’s vital role in facilitating launches. Elsewhere on the site, the Space Force’s role in providing advanced GPS technology free to the public, protecting satellites in orbit, and safeguarding global military communications is rendered through detailed motion graphics to illustrate the Space Force’s daily defense of our nation’s interests in space.

“With the launch of the new Spaceforce.com, we’ve created a virtual space to inspire the next generation of American Guardians who will protect space for the nation,” said Maj. Gen. Ed Thomas, Air Force Recruiting Service commander.

Thomas said he’s impressed with the redesign and that it takes this “one-stop shop” on Space Force information and education to a new level with the kind of feel and web navigation that today’s digital native recruits expect.

New to SpaceForce.com are video interviews with those serving in the Space Force from both military and civilian backgrounds, sharing their perspectives and personal experiences on life as a Guardian, common misconceptions about the newest branch, and what it’s like to collaborate with the commercial space industry, government agencies and it allied partners.

Unique to the Space Force is a more even division of labor and responsibilities between active-duty Guardians and their civilian counterparts. SpaceForce.com introduces a gamified approach for potential careers for both audiences. Prospective recruits interested in service both in and out of uniform can identify potential career paths through self-discovery tools based on their skills and strengths and learn what service in the Space Force could look like for them.

“We are very excited about the new SpaceForce.com, its interactive pages provide clear insight of what Space Force is, answering many questions about the newest service in the Department of Defense,” said Angelo Haygood, Chief Space Force Accessions and Recruiting Policy. “My favorite page is the 'Right Career for You,' which provides a visualization of how an individual's perceived skills and strengths line up with specific Space Force specialties. We believe the site strikes the right message, providing insight into and spurring interest in Space Force.”

The Space Force was established Dec. 20, 2019, under the Department of the Air Force, and AFRS is the Space Force’s arm for recruiting and advertising to attract the next generation of Guardians. AFRS, the Air Force’s advertising agency, GSD&M, and partner website development and design firm, Wildlife, collaborated on the creation of the website.

Since its establishment three years ago, Air Force recruiters have recruited approximately 1,000 Guardians, The Space Force’s recruiting goals for fiscal 2023 is 532 enlisted and 42 officers. Each one of AFRS’s 24 enlisted accessions squadron has a dedicated Space Force recruiter.

The Space Force will continue to expand its civilian workforce through the Air Force Civilian Service.
