Updated DSE listing adds options for Airmen and Guardians to gain or enhance competencies

JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-RANDOLPH, Texas – Capital “A” Airmen and Guardians looking to gain or enhance competencies have new options to consider after Air Education and Training Command’s Force Development Experiences and Validation branch announced the newest additions to the Developmental Special Experiences listings.

More than just education and training, DSE’s are practical experiences that enhance Airmen and Guardians’ knowledge, skills and abilities. These experiences are typically external to an individual’s primary duties.

For ​​​​​​​Officers: ​​​​​​​ Engineer and Scientist Exchange Program for Officers                                                 

This DSE is a 2-year tour open to 0-2 through 0-4s in the 15A, 61C, 61D and 62E Air Force Specialty Codes AFSCs and have several pre-requisites that must be met. The expected competencies to be gained/increased are, “Analytical Thinking, Creative Thinking, Information Seeking, Initiative, and Resource Management.” The U.S. Air Force pursues the exchange of engineers and scientists with allied and friendly governments to help keep abreast of other nations concepts and ideas, to provide a foundation upon which to build future collaborative efforts, and to provide personnel career broadening opportunities. Assignments improve the mutual understanding of both nation's technological capabilities and the processes by which defense Research, Development, Test and Evaluation (RDT&E) efforts are conducted.

For Enlisted: ​​​​​​​ Airmen Development Advisors - ADA            

This DSE is a three-year tour open to E-7 and E-8’s across all AFSC’s (and who meet several pre-requisites). The expected competencies to be gained or increased are “Communication, Flexibility, Initiative, and Teamwork.” Selectees will serve as principal advisors to commanders and supervisors on enlisted force management and professional enhancement. They assist commanders and supervisors in career counseling, as well as the development of superior front-line supervisors. Personnel selected will advise Airmen on career progression and planning, monitor mandatory pay and benefits briefing programs, and conduct advertising and publicity programs. They conduct informed decision seminars, noncommissioned officer and senior NCO professional enhancement seminars and individual career counseling sessions. The ADA’s also manage installations’ First Term Airmen Center, which helps transition new Airmen from the training to the operational environment.

For Civilians: ​​​​​​​Military & Family Readiness (M&FRC) Community Readiness Consultant/Specialist (CRC/CRS) Deployed    

This DSE is a 6-month tour open to GS-09 to GS-12s in the Civilian 0101 job series who currently have two-years of M&FRC experience. The expected competencies to be gained or increased are “Communication, Flexibility, Initiative, and Teamwork.” This DSE participates in wartime and contingency operations and deploys to contingency locations on a rotational basis for 6-month deployments or as needed. Individuals working in this DSE assists service members and their families in areas of personal and family preparedness, and readiness, during contingency operations and when needed during emergencies, disasters, crisis, and noncombatant evacuations. If selected, individuals will have an extraordinary opportunity to exercise skills and expertise directly supporting operations of national interest. This is a dynamic way to serve and gain breadth of Air Force/joint/coalition experience.
