LUKE AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. — U.S. Air Force Tech Sgt. Ned McCaster III, 56th Component Maintenance Squadron maintenance instructor, was awarded the Semper Fidelis Coach Award, March 15, 2024, at Peoria High School, Peoria, Arizona.

The Semper Fi Coach Award honors high school coaches who exemplify the Marine Corps values of honor, courage, and commitment. McCaster’s nomination highlights his impact on his players and the community.

“He’s a family man, coach, and active-duty Airman, who is respectful, dependable, and caring,” said Jason Golden, PHS head football coach. “He challenges players to be good men on and off the football field.”

When McCaster first arrived at Luke Air Force Base he hadn’t even had a furnished home before looking to get back on the field, seeking volunteer coaching opportunities in Phoenix.

“Six out of the nine seasons I have coached, the teams have made the playoffs and even that is a product of the other coaches around me and the players that we have,” said McCaster. “I have been blessed to work with some really good coaches, players, and parents. Without them, I am not even in this position to accept this award.”

His approach goes beyond physical training by preparing his athletes for life’s challenges with the same energy as preparing for game day. This philosophy of coaching comes from what he learned as a player. His own coaches taught him these lessons, and now he passes them on.

“I try to do the same for every player that comes through the programs I’m a part of,” said McCaster. “I truly believe that the key traits that you need to be successful in life, like integrity, work ethic, overcoming adversity, and drive will also take you far on the football field.”

His influence extends beyond the football field by guiding lives of countless young individuals and equipping them with the tools needed to excel in all walks of life.
