Lt. Gen. André Steur, commander of the Royal Netherlands Air Force, visited the Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training program on Sept. 13, 2024, to speak at the graduation ceremony for Class 24-08.

In his speech, Steur reflected on the enduring relationships developed when he was a student at ENJJPT.

"As an ENJJPT Class 94-03 graduate, it’s inspiring to witness the lasting bond that forms in each class,” said Steur. “I can confidently say our bond is as strong—if not stronger—than it was when we walked this stage 30 years ago.”

Steur emphasized the importance of allied partnerships and their impact on building airpower.

“These bonds are the foundation of the airpower team,” said Steur. “They’re forged early in training, where pilots build trust, a shared culture and unified standards, enabling them to fight together as one, regardless of their country of origin.”

He highlighted the value of multinational training.

“I can’t stress enough the importance of training together as early as possible,” said Steur. “The strength and cohesion of our Alliances, partnerships and friendships begin here.”

Steur commended the graduating pilots for their decision to serve their nations in complex and challenging times and for completing the rigorous 13-month program.

He also offered advice as the new pilots begin their careers.

“Bring a warrior mindset to everything you do, as people will look to you to lead by example. It's not just about mastering skills, but about taking ownership, leading with the right attitude and continuously striving to improve,” said Steur. “Your journey is just beginning, but I am confident that all of you will make a profound impact in the skies and beyond.”

The mission of ENJJPT is to train NATO’s fighter pilots. This pilot training program unites 14 NATO partner nations, fostering international cooperation and advancing shared tactical expertise.
