The primary mission of the 149th Fighter Wing is to produce the finest Airmen, capable of engaging national threats anywhere in the world and citizen airmen responsive to civil emergencies and homeland defense. The F-16 Fighting Falcon is a compact, multi-role fighter aircraft. It is highly maneuverable and has proven itself in air-to-air combat and air-to-surface attack. It provides a relatively low-cost, high-performance weapon system for the United States and allied nations. Although the unit has experienced several reorganizations in its more than 70-year history, the 149th FW has always flown fighter aircraft.
