Team XL celebrated the grand opening of its newly renovated Base Exchange with a ribbon cutting ceremony; marking the completion of a major quality-of-life improvement project for the Laughlin community on April 16, 2025.

The ribbon cutting ceremony, hosted by the Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES), featured live music, games, prize giveaways and remarks. The upgraded facility combines the Express and Exchange store under one roof, aiming to provide a more convenient, modern shopping experience for Airmen.

“Today marks a pivotal moment in the history of Laughlin Air Force Base as we stand at the forefront of this transformational project,” said Col. Robert Moore, 47th Mission Support Group commander. “This project was not merely a construction endeavor but a significant step towards modernizing our base and enhancing the quality of life for our community.”

The project began with a groundbreaking ceremony in December 2023, with support from AAFES leadership and Laughlin’s command team. The intent behind the renovation was to enhance mission readiness by streamlining access to essential goods and services, particularly for active-duty members and their families.

“The renovation directly supports the mission by boosting readiness and resiliency,” said Julie McNeil, AAFES Laughlin Branch Store Manager. “By bringing more convenience and healthy choices to the forefront, Airmen can focus on training without sacrificing access to the goods and services they need.”

This renovation reflects Laughlin’s ongoing commitment to bolstering Airmen and family resilience through community engagement and posturing for an evolving environment through strategic planning and resource alignment.

“This enhancement is not just about convenience; it reflects our dedication to providing a high-quality shopping and dining experience, and it's about creating a hub of activity and a center of community life,” said Moore. “It represents our unwavering commitment to enhancing the quality of life for all at Laughlin.”
