Police Week 2026 at Laughlin Air Force Base Published May 15, 2026 By Airman 1st Class Harrison Sullivan 47th Flying Training Wing Public Affairs LAUGHLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The 47th Security Forces Squadron observed National Police Week at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas, May 4–7. Police Week honored law enforcement officers who have died or been disabled in the line of duty while recognizing the dedication and sacrifice of those who continue to serve. At Laughlin, Police Week serves as both a time of remembrance and an opportunity to strengthen the bonds within the law enforcement and military community. Throughout the week, defenders, service members and community partners came together to reflect on the profession’s legacy of service, resilience and commitment to protecting others. “This is a time when we can reflect on all of the sacrifices men and woman within the Law Enforcement community make,” said Senior Master Sgt. Richard Morris, 47th SFS senior enlisted leader. “This week also showcases the great things law enforcement does for the community.” To kick off the week the 47th SFS hosted an opening ceremony at the base track. The ceremony featured the presentation of the colors, national anthem and an invocation honoring past and present members of law enforcement. Following the ceremony, participants took part in a 5K ruck march in remembrance of those who have served in the line of duty. "When you’re miles into a heavy ruck march, completely exhausted and your feet are hurting, you find out exactly who has your back,” said Tech Sgt. Eric Barth, 47th SFS non-commission officer in charge plans and programs. “It’s a lot like the stress of being deployed. You realize pretty quick that you can’t make it on your own. It forces you to lean on the Defender next to you, and that kind of trust carries over directly into our daily mission." The momentum continued throughout the week with a golf tournament softball tournament and home run derby. The events brought Team XL together through friendly competition, camaraderie and shared appreciation for the defenders who support the mission every day. Participants also gathered for food and fellowship, further reinforcing the sense of unity across the installation. Laughlin Police Week concluded with, the Defender Challenge and a law enforcement expo, highlighting the capabilities, professionalism and teamwork of Security Forces personnel and partner agencies. "It really brings us all together,” said Barth. “Whether you’re working a freezing midnight shift on the flightline or you've been downrange in a combat zone, we all share that same grind. Police Week is a chance for the old guard like me to connect with the new troops. We get to swap stories, share our history, and just remind each other why we do this. It builds that tight-knit brotherhood and sisterhood you really can’t find anywhere else." National Police Week provides an opportunity for the Laughlin community to honor the memory of fallen officers, recognize the sacrifices made by law enforcement professionals and show continued support for those who serve and protect.
