AFJROTC Instructor to Represent Team USA at World Masters Athletics Championships

Retired U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Marvin Tasby, an Aerospace Science Instructor with the TX-20005, Space Force Junior ROTC program at Klein High School, will represent the United States at the 2026 World Masters Athletics Championships in Daegu, Republic of Korea, Aug. 21-Sept. 3.

Tasby earned a position on Team USA following a series of personal-best performances during the 2026 masters track and field season. He will compete among 7,476 athletes representing 106 countries at a championship expected to welcome more than 11,000 athletes, officials, volunteers and accompanying personnel, making it the largest World Masters Athletics Championships ever held in Asia.

The World Masters Athletics Championships bring together athletes age 35 and older from around the world to compete in track and field events while promoting lifelong fitness and healthy aging.

For Tasby, participation in the championship is the result of a personal commitment to improving his health. Approximately five years ago, a medical appointment revealed elevated blood sugar levels and increased risk for future health complications. In response, Tasby adopted a disciplined approach to fitness, nutrition and training.

Through consistent effort, Tasby lost nearly 48 pounds. The health-focused lifestyle changes eventually led him back to competitive athletics and culminated in selection to represent the United States on the world stage.

As an Air and Space Force JROTC instructor, Tasby teaches his 100 cadets leadership, discipline, resilience and personal responsibility. Those same principles have guided his athletic preparation and pursuit of international competition.
