Chelsea Browning 59th Medical Wing Public Affairs JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas -- The Recovering Warrior Task Force visited the Wilford Hall Ambulatory Surgical Center, Dec. 11 to conduct a focus group with wounded warriors and meet with senior leaders. The visit covered all aspects of support and recovery including medical care, legal services and transition assistance. "The patients feel they are getting great medical care and sufficient support for recovery," said Suzanne Crockett-Jones, Non-Department of Defense Co-Chair. The focus groups provided an opportunity for open and honest dialogue with recovering service members, which allowed for a detailed understanding of the experiences of these wounded warriors, and the programs offered to them and their families. The task force determined that patients are happy to be out of their line units, which enables them to focus on their treatment. At the end of the study, recommendations based on patient feedback will be presented to the Secretary of Defense on how to best support wounded warriors and their families. "I'm glad the Airmen had an avenue for honest feedback," said Lt. Col. William Fecke, 59th Medical Support Squadron commander. "It is essential for us to make the necessary changes to meet their needs." The task force is a four year study established in November 2010 and is comprised of military and non-military members. The purpose is to evaluate the effectiveness of Department of Defense policies and programs for recovering wounded, ill and injured warriors, and also assess best practices for their continuing treatment and readjustment after military service to gather and analyze information. "Our focus is providing the best care to our Airmen."
