San Angelo, Texas named 2015 Altus Trophy winner Published March 11, 2015 Air Education and Training Command Public Affairs JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-RANDOLPH, Texas -- The city of San Angelo is the latest winner of the Altus Trophy, according to an announcement made by Gen. Robin Rand, Air Education and Training Command commander March 11. San Angelo won the 2015 Altus Trophy in recognition of its community support to the 17th Training Wing throughout 2014. The Altus Trophy, also known as the Air Education and Training Command Community Support Award, is presented by the Altus, Oklahoma Chamber of Commerce each year to the community that has shown the most outstanding support to an AETC unit. "Community support plays a huge role in the success of our Air Education and Training Command mission, and the citizens of San Angelo, Texas, are truly among the best," said Rand. "Although the Altus Trophy is a physical reminder, it's the day-to-day, outstanding care and support shown for the Airmen and families of Goodfellow Air Force Base that truly reflect the partnership we share with the San Angelo community." The Altus Trophy selection committee chose San Angelo as the 2015 winner due to its innovative partnership initiatives to support the 17th TRW. The city and the base have partnered to identify mutually beneficial processes and, as a result, have realized efficiencies and benefits of working together. For example, the city of San Angelo and the 17th TRW currently participate together in training sessions for medical emergencies, national incidents and general emergencies. They have shared vehicle maintenance and shared use of a firing range. They have also partnered in the creation of a new student sponsorship program to ease students' transitions into area schools. In the future, San Angelo and the base are working toward establishing shared library services as well as collaborative refuse management and road maintenance. This is the first Altus Trophy awarded to the city of San Angelo. Previous winners of the award, which has been distributed since its creation in 2011, include Columbus, Mississippi; Wichita Falls and Del Rio, Texas; and Enid, Oklahoma.
