LITTLE ROCK AIR FORCE BASE, Ark. – The 189th Airlift Wing, Air National Guard provides instruction in all C-130 crew positions Department of Defense-wide. C-130 Instructors from the 189th Operations Group, Little Rock Air Force Base, Ark., conduct preflight checklist training. The 189th Airlift Wing trains C-130 aircrew instructor candidates to become instructors in the respective crew positions, so that they may return to their units and help keep their unit members combat ready. The wing also operates the Air National Guard Enlisted Aircrew Academic School, which trains all the Air Force’s C-130 entry-level loadmasters before they are sent across base to the 314th Airlift Wing for initial and mission qualification training. Additionally, the academic school is one of two flight engineer schools to provide entry-level flight engineer training for Air Force flight engineers. (U.S. Air Force photo/ Master Sgt. DOBBINS AIR RESERVE BASE, Ga. -- Maj. Christopher Gohlke, 700th Airlift Squadron flight instructor, escorts the newest class of C-130 pilots for a close-up view of their future aircraft Sept. 17. The six student pilots spent the past 10 weeks studying academics and are transitioning into the 20-week portion of hands-on learning to fly the C-130H aircraft assigned here. After their training, the six pilots will return to Guard and Reserve units throughout the country. A Look Inside AETC
KIRTLAND AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. – A C-130 and a CV-22 Osprey fly over Kirtland Air Force Base, N.M. The 58th Special Operations Wing conducts follow-on training for special operations aircrew on Kirtland AFB. The wing operates three types of helicopters, three specialized versions of the C-130, and the CV-22 Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft. The wing trains officers and enlisted personnel in 18 crew positions to become fully qualified aircrews in special operations flying, combat search and rescue, and operations support. LITTLE ROCK AIR FORCE BASE, Ark. (AETCNS) -- The C-130J Hercules is the latest addition to the C-130 fleet. The C-130J provides life-cycle cost savings over earlier models. Compared to older aircraft, the J model climbs faster and higher, flies farther at a higher cruise speed, and takes off and lands in a shorter distance.
