Airman awarded Purple Heart for valor in Afghanistan
FORT SAM HOUSTON, Texas -- General Edward A. Rice Jr., commander, Air Education and Training Command, presents the Purple Heart and Air Force Combat Action Medals April 6 to Senior Airman Erik J. Schadler. Airman Schadler, an explosive ordnance disposal specialist assigned to the 21st Civil Engineering Squadron at Peterson AFB, Colo., was awarded the medals for wounds received in combat action against a hostile enemy force in Afghanistan.
