Global Health Engagement Panamax Alpha 2023
A team of worldwide military ophthalmologists and medical personnel observe a Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery taking place at Regional Hospital Dr. Luis "Chicho" Fabrega in Santiago de Veraguas, Panama, as part of a three-week mission that occurred on July 17, 2023. This mission, known as Panamax Alpha 2023, represents an annual joint service Ophthalmology Medical Readiness Training Exercise (MEDRETE) led by the U.S. Army Southern Command. Its primary goal is to restore sight to individuals within the community who are affected by cataracts and pterygiums, thereby enhancing their overall quality of life.
