A firefighter with the U.S. Air Force Wildland Fire Branch, observes the spread of a fire during a controlled burn at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas, Jan. 13, 2024. Effective smoke management involves predicting the direction and dispersion of smoke along with communication to local communities about potential air quality impacts.
