U.S. Air Force partners with academia, industry to test future pilot production model

U.S. Air Force 2nd Lt. Steven Schnoblen, University of North Dakota Aerospace Foundation student pilot, prepares his aircraft for flight, Jan. 7, 2025, in Mesa, Arizona. Air Education and Training Command has partnered with the University of North Dakota Aerospace Foundation to test a new Initial Pilot Training model that enables students to earn essential certifications such as a private pilot’s license, instrument rating, and multi-engine rating. They also learn to fly both single- and multi-engine aircraft, and log about 110 flight hours before transitioning to specialized training. AETC is partnering with the civil aviation sector as part of its plan to revise pilot training for U.S. Air Force and partner nation pilots. (U.S. Air Force photo by Senior Airman Mason Hargrove)
