  • One Force, Many Origins: A1C Blanquisco reflects on cultural differences

    Grass on a front lawn, light poles on a street, snow in the winter and water from a drinking fountain; these are all common things found in the United States. For individuals from different countries, these things can be a complete culture shock. This was the case for Airman 1st Class Xander Broe Blanquisco, 97th Logistics Readiness Squadron air freight specialist, when he first arrived in the country. He was born in Muntinlupa City, Philippines, and lived in Manila and Bicol, Philippines, until he was about 11 years old. When Blanquisco came to the USA, he moved to Kentucky with his mom and aunts to live with his grandma before moving to Utah six months after to live with his aunt. Six years later they moved to Ohio, where at the age of 18, he joined the Air Force.

  • 97 AMW command team receives highest honor

    The 97th Air Mobility Wing command team was inducted into the Order of the Flaming Spear during a ceremony held on May 21, 2021. This award was a way to show the 97th AMW command team how much its members appreciate their hard work and leadership for the past two years in Mobility’s Hometown. Col. Matthew Leard, 97th AMW commander, and Chief Master Sgt. Randy Kay II, 97th AMW command chief, were the 15th and 16th members of the wing to be inducted into the order.
  • 97 MDG highlights readiness to AETC surgeon general team

    Medical leadership from Air Education and Training Command in Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Texas, visited Altus Air Force Base to take part in an immersion tour of the 97th Medical Group, Dec. 3, 2020. The immersion tour showcased the 97th MDG’s readiness capabilities to Col. Michael Higgins, Air Education and Training Command command surgeon, and Chief Master Sgt. Janet Woodard, AETC chief, medical enlisted force for the office of the command surgeon. The tour focused on the COVID-19 screening process, surveillance testing plans and general readiness of the 97th MDG.

  • Spouses of 97 AMW leaders learn base welfare, morale capabilities during tour

    The spouses of base leaders toured multiple facilities across the 97th Air Mobility Wing at Altus Air Force Base, Oklahoma as part of an annual leadership spouse tour, November 19, 2020. The tour provided an opportunity for the spouses to learn about wing resources available to Airmen and their families, as well as share their own stories and experiences.
