  • 351st SWTS honors fallen hero during Maltz Challenge

    The Maltz Challenge honors Master Sgt. Michael Maltz, a Pararescueman who was killed in action in 2003 in Afghanistan while responding to a combat-rescue call. Originally, the Maltz Challenge was organized to support Maltz’s family after his death, but has since evolved into a national event where people across the nation do the same workout in honor of the fallen hero.

  • DAFIA leveraging artificial intelligence to transform inspections

    The Department of the Air Force Inspection Agency at Kirtland AFB, N.M., is using artificial intelligence, in the form of machine learning, to identify emerging issues of concern to Airmen and enable the Air Force to isolate, respond to, and resolve them as early as possible.
  • Better late than never: 982nd MXS closes loop on 30-year acquisition process

    The 982nd Maintenance Squadron here at Sheppard AFB was finally able to close an acquisition process which originally began in April 1991 with a request for the HH-60. The aircraft will be used as a ground instructional training aircraft for Airmen in Training learning how to maintain armament and munitions, with the possibility of other career fields also able to utilize other aspects of the aircraft.

  • 58 OG creates airpower by training special ops, CSAR Airmen in four states

    The 58th Operations Group, headquartered at Kirtland AFB, N.M., trains Airmen to fly nuclear security, distinguished visitor airlift, special operations and combat search and rescue aircraft, from fixed-wing to tilt-rotor to helicopters.
  • DLA conducts spill prevention exercise at Kirtland AFB

    The Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) partnered with Kirtland’s environmental professionals to host its annual spill prevention exercise. This training is open to all base personnel that are either a part of a spill response team or handle spills reports, petroleum, oils, and lubricants on a regular basis. The training covered operation and maintenance of equipment; discharge procedure protocols; applicable pollution control laws; rules and regulations; general facility operations; spill prevention plan and ended with a Bulk Fuels Facility (BFF) walk through and spill demonstration.
